Genee Grants Microsoft’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Wish

This week Microsoft announced its acquisition of smart scheduling service, Genee. This agreement adds Microsoft to a running list of major tech players banking on the allure of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Piggybacking on the recent purchase of SwiftKey, this new end-to-end scheduling system is perfectly suited to boost the reach of Microsoft’s Cortana. Genee fully automates the scheduling process for its users—something Microsoft’s Vice President of Outlook & Office 365, Rajesh Jha, wrote is an effort “to bring intelligence into every digital experience.”

“Genee uses natural language processing and optimized decision-making algorithms so that interacting with a virtual assistant is just like interacting with a human one,” Jha explains further in the blog.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Genee uses “optimized decision-making algorithms and chat bots” to create and schedule meetings for its users. Jha lays out a scenario in his blog of asking Genee to set-up a coffee meeting. The artificial intelligence will assess your calendar, send some potential times to your lead and even will send a formal invitation. Scheduling a coffee meeting might not sound like the biggest stress of your day, but minimizing time spent on tasks like these has the potential to dramatically increase productivity.

The more and more we dive into the exciting and wild world of automation, services like Genee could very well become the norm for the industry. It can speed-up both internal and external business practices, giving you less time trying to manage communications and more time focusing on your work at hand and looking forward toward the next big innovation.

There’s no telling when a complete integration will take place, but when it does it will take enterprise productivity to the next level—and Office 365 Suite will have the first, fully integrated, fully automated, personal assistant. Until then, we’ll stay tuned.
